Gold Coast Council votes to remove public art installation 'Hi-Lights' from the M1 at Yatala

 The Gold Coast City Council has voted to remove an art installation that cost more than $2 million after years of repeated criticism and controversies surrounding the sculptures.

Councillors voted unanimously to remove the 'Hi-Lights' public art installation, which was erected on the side of the M1 at Yatala ahead of the 2018 Commonwealth Games.

The lighting installation spells 'Gold Coast' but cannot be read by passing motorists.

Earlier this month, Queensland Police asked council to turn off the lights temporarily, to disrupt hoons allegedly gathering near the installation.
