Border barricades come down from checkpoints on Gold Coast

 As Queensland removes road checkpoints and barricades that have split border communities for almost two years, some locals are optimistic.

But Omicron-induced staff shortages present yet another challenge. 

Queensland's hard border checkpoints will be removed at 1am on Saturday, relieving disruptions within the Coolangatta and Tweed Heads community that have ranged from traffic delays to financial hardship.

The changes had previously been expected when Queensland hit a 90 per cent double-dose vaccination rate expected in late January.
