AFL 2021 season: Gold Coast humble Collingwood – as it happened

 On paper this was an innocuous midseason fixture, but there was plenty of context behind Gold Coast’s solitary visit to the MCG for 2021. And it ends with Collingwood and Nathan Buckley, already besieged by negative headlines, staring down the barrel of another week on the back pages.

The Suns were well worth their 24-point victory. After a conservative opening quarter they took the game on and dominated the corridor of Collingwood’s home track. Their key backs were towering, onballers industrious and brave, and forward line mobile and assertive. Coming into the game 2-4 and with question marks over their relevancy, this was a performance that showed, on their day, the Suns are a force to be reckoned with.
